The Weeknd (real name: Abél Makkonen Tesfaye) was born on 16 February 1990, in Scarborough, Ontario, a district of Toronto. He is the only child of Makkonen and Samra Tesfaye, who were Ethiopian migrants to Canada in the 1980s. While many argue about his origin and nationality, a lot can be derived from The Weeknd's style of music and fluidity. His latest body of work - the 18-track album titled "Starboy" is a phenomenal work of art. 'The Ethiopian Weeknd' as the Neo-Afrikan Voices love to call him, does great justice in this Billboard chart-topping album. The Grammy Winner finds common ground between being a child of the night to an almost cheerful but morbidly poetic character as he takes listeners on a roller coaster journey through time and space.
